FOR LOVE OR FOR COUNTRY

She was looking sad

with tears the size of a peanut dropping from her eyes

She always gets like that whenever I am about to go to war

I hate to see her like this

It breaks my heart

but I can't do anything

If it was left to me,

I would have stayed behind

but I have to serve my country

She prepared my favorite

fried yam with egg sauce

I will really miss this

I looked at her where she sat

she wasn't eating her food

I stood and went over to her

"Babe, I will only be gone for six months" I said to her

"six months is too long" she replied

"I know, but I have to serve my country" I said

"If you die in war, the country will only loose one soldier but I will loose my whole world" She screamed

"oh come on babe, don't say that. I promise I will come back to you, " I said as smoothly as possible

"you promise?" she asked

"Yes" I answered.

It was time to go

I picked up my bag, hugged and kissed her

and with a heavy heart I exited the house.
